RISQUÉ? NEVER THAT!
Yet another chic way to layer in a hot climate region Lagos, Nigeria where I live in… you better count me in!!! As seen on the stylish Kardashian sisters sometime last year (although Madonna has already been there and done that in the 80’s), the fashion scenes have embraced this trend and so am I. There is a little problem with this wearing your corset as an outer wear trend though and it’s how if you aren’t careful you can end up looking very tacky. So I today’s post I’d be sharing with you tips on how you can wear a corset as outerwear without looking tacky but rather look chic.
What I’m Wearing :
Jeans – Thrifted
Shoes – Details here
Corset – Thrifted
Purse – Thrifted
* Go Black Till You Go Pro :
Black is that go to color when it comes to playing the safe card in fashion and it’s no different in this case. A black corset would help give you a well put together overall look.
* Keep It Messy :
One thing you’d want to avoid is having a dolled up look wearing your corset as outer wear if not you’d end up on the streets looking like a Britney Spears backup singer that forgot the way to the show. Instead of having sleek hair, opt for a messy bun or fro, swap the heels for sneakers or thrown on a pair of ripped jeans like I did to add an edge to your look.
* Simplicity Is Key :
You just gotta keep it very simple!! Tuck away your floral shirts (that might hurt as embroidered florals are so in right now) and opt for a clean crisp plain or stripped shirt preferably white ones to wear your corset over, it’s gives a French chic vibe.
There you have it, my top three tips of turning risqué to fashionably chic.
My love for this trend really is the fact that people especially Nigerian men like to act brand new when they hug you and feel your corset underneath like they don’t know that waist cinching is important (rolls eyes), so here is a way to snatch in your waist unapologetically, giving no room for people to act surprised that you’re doing that and still be very stylishly while at it. Do have a great week and more tips coming your way so be sure to keep coming back.
Till next time… xoxo.

What’s your take on this trend? And how will you style a corset as outerwear if you decide to give it a trial?
This is so me and i love this statement “snatch in your waist unapologetically, giving no room for people to act surprised that you’re doing that and still be very stylishly while at it”
