THE 5 | THINGS I GAVE UP TO LIVE A BETTER LIFE.

Currently listening to Fela Kuti – International Thief Thief (I.T.T)

I just realized that in my previous post  I didn’t wish you amazing people a happy new month (my bad), don’t worry I’d do so today but first let’s dig right into my thunder thighs and five things I gave up to have the happy and peace filled life I’m living at this moment.

What I’m Wearing :

Striped shirt – Thrifted

Crop top – 87origins

Skirt – Thrifted

Shoe – Annie Michelle

Purse – Thrifted

Glasses – Roadside vendor

I’ve finally come to terms with the rain coming down every other day here in Lagos for the next couple of days and I’ve been trying new ways to layer pieces in my wardrobe to keep warm in hence wearing this great quality crop top from 87origin over an exaggerated sleeve shirt but paired this with a mini skirt because it can get sunny at any moment and we don’t want to get sweaty right? Yeah!
Talking about a mini skirt, years back I’d never be caught dead outside my house in anything above my knee not to talk of talking pictures in it because I was insecure about my thick thighs and especially my big calves which in high school people won’t stop teasing me about having fat legs. That made me really conscious of my legs and despite loving me some shorts as a child I never wore them and just admired it when I see people wear it but look at me today, putting all of my beautiful fat legs in your faces and not being an aorta shy about it because I’ve learnt that all that matters is how I feel about myself and I gave up caring about how people feel about me especially when it’s a negative thought.

Here are five other things I gave up to be more self confident and happy :

1. I gave up DOUBTING MYSELF.

If you think you look amazing in that dress or if you think you can take that course in uni and ace it then don’t doubt yourself.

2. I gave up NEGATIVE SELF – TALK.

Your voice is what you listen to first, no matter what anyone says it’s really what your inner mind is saying that your brain processes. So be sure to always have positive conversations with yourself.

3. I gave up FEAR OF FAILURE.

Life isn’t a bed of roses, trust me you’d fail at something but when you aren’t afraid to fail, when it happens you’d easily get back on your feet and tackle the problem with even more confidence and drive.

4. I gave up CRITICIZING OTHERS.

In this world where everyone wants to be a critic, I decided to be the one that sees the good in every situation and only offer helpful advice on areas I feel people can improve on and this has made my life so much easier with people wanting to help me out too because I’m one person they know they can turn to who wouldn’t just point out the problems but provide solace and solutions for them.

5. I gave up PEOPLE PLEASING.

I’ve never really been a people pleaser actually, since I was a child I’d always do me without caring about others think but now as a young adult trying to have my name out there I’ve noticed that some people would ignore your potential just because you aren’t sucking up to them and trying to please them. If you find yourself in this situation, permit me to be your example of someone who is gradually making a mark through working hard without having to be pleasing anyone. Trust me there is so much peace of mind with doing you, whenever, wherever and however you want to.

So there you have it, I hope I’ve been able to add a little more value to you with this post especially as we’ve began this new month. On this note I’d love to wish you reading this a very happy June filled with amazing opportunities and blessings uncountable. Do enjoy the rest of the week.

BLOOPER (in my faux youtuber voice) :

I was posing then tripped and was almost falling but my lovely friend and photographer @manvibess (on IG) decided to capture the moment and I LOVE THIS PHOTO!!!

What steps do you take to live a better life? What’s your favorite thing about the rainy season? I’d love to hear your opinion on this look, do leave me a comment below thanks.

These five things are totally worth giving up. Life is too short anyways.
